Children

Parenting in today’s world can be rewarding but it can also be very challenging. “Kids don’t come with a manual” is not only a humorous statement – it is quite true. Every child is born with a unique temperament that requires a parenting style and environment that is tuned to the needs of that child in order to unfold optimally. This is a tall order for us as parents where the demands are already very high. Many children at some point have a problem that requires professional intervention. Hyperactivity, behavioral problems, anxiety, depression and learning problems present real challenges for children. Interface provides therapy, consultation and referrals.

Adolescence

Adolescence is a time of great change and great promise. Often problems arise as the adolescent tries to develop autonomy and succeed in his or her peer culture. The adolescent often feels thwarted and misunderstood by their parents, and parents often feel unappreciated and disrespected. Therapy with adolescents typically involves family sessions as well as individual sessions with the adolescent. The goal is to create a home environment that encourages the teen to gradually take increasing control of, and responsibility of his/her behavior.

Adolescence is a time of experimentation, of finding personal capacities and limitations. Because of this, teens are vulnerable to anxiety, depression and substance abuse. Sometimes serious illness like bipolar disorder, depression or schizophrenia emerge in the adolescent years. These illnesses can be baffling and frightening to parents and to the adolescent as well. Interface clinicians will help the teen and parents understand and deal with these challenges.

Couple Counseling

Healthy relationships with our mates are essential to our emotional wellbeing. We live in a very demanding worlds that makes it difficult to balance economic, personal and relationship needs. Therapy helps restore the balance and bring respect and enjoyment back to the relationship.

Family / Stepfamily

The concept of family has become more flexible and inclusive. Developing a successful family means being able to understand the multiple needs and multiple loyalties within the family. Family therapy helps each member understand their role and importance. Good family functioning requires both structure and flexibility. Therapy involves helping the family develop healthy lines of authority and mutual respect and love.

Group Therapy

Interface provides group therapy for substance abusing individuals. Groups are comprised of eight or fewer individuals. All groups are guided by a professional therapist. Group treatment is designed to help individuals discover more about themselves, to control impulsive behavior and to develop healthy interpersonal relationships.
